Kitchen Renovation

Rathmines 2024

The house is located in the picturesque suburb of Rathmines, Dublin, within Fortfield Terrace, a charming street known for its distinctive architectural style. The area features a mix of two- and three-storey terraced and semi-detached homes, built primarily in the 1920s. These houses are characterized by their red brick facades on the ground floor, with the upper floors finished in dry dash render, a feature which is also present in the home in question.

The couple, now retired, have gradually extended the property over the years, utilizing old chimneys and thick walls to create additional kitchen storage. With frequent visits from their children and grandchildren, they sought to renovate the space to create a more continuous flow throughout the home. The brief was to knock down a wall separating the dining room and kitchen, merging the two areas into an open-plan space. The proposed design includes a new kitchen layout with a breakfast bar, ensuring the home is more welcoming and functional for their family gatherings.
